A full eye examination is not the same as a vision test. Reading letters off a chart shows how sharp your sight is — it says almost nothing about the health of the eye behind it.

Glaucoma, early diabetic retinopathy and many retinal conditions are all perfectly compatible with 6/6 vision. A comprehensive examination checks both how well you see and whether the eye itself is healthy.
We measure your prescription on a digital autorefractor and then refine it subjectively, check eye pressure, examine the front of the eye on the slit lamp, and dilate to examine the retina where indicated.
Our optical counter is inside the hospital, so your prescription goes straight from the consulting room to the counter without a second trip.
Allow two to three hours if your retina needs examining under dilation.
Reliable methods exist for children too young to read letters.
Frames fitted on site — though you are free to take your prescription elsewhere.

Yes, particularly after 40. Glaucoma and early diabetic retinopathy cause serious damage long before you notice any change in vision.
No — only when there is a reason, such as diabetes, retinal symptoms or high myopia. We will tell you in advance so you can arrange to be accompanied.
Not at all. Your prescription is yours and we will hand it over to use wherever you like. The counter is for convenience, not obligation.
Yes. There are well-established methods for assessing vision in very young and non-verbal children that need no reading or verbal answers.
